Preston/Grady Intersection Project

6/22/2020

Hello neighbors,
There are a couple of important neighborhood developments that we hope you will consider participating in.
---
The first is the city's new design for the intersection of Grady Avenue and Preston Avenue, currently one of the most dangerous intersections in the city. The city is applying for Virginia Department of Transportation "Smart Scale" funding to undertake design and improvements at the intersection.

The city offers the following related meeting information:
Join us at our virtual public information meeting to learn more about the project, provide feedback, and help shape the vision for the corridor’s future! The City of Charlottesville strives to ensure that all members of the community have the opportunity to gain insight and provide comments on projects. It is important that the City verifies, through meetings like this, that the conceptual designs for this project reflect the priorities and desires of the community. City representatives will be present to discuss the project and answer any questions you may have!

The VNA also encourages you to participate in the city's comprehensive plan update, housing study, and code re-write, known as  Cville Plans Together.

The city's consultants are in the first phase of community engagement for this effort. There will be future phases throughout the project, which is currently planned to extend through 2021. For this first phase the consultants are focused on hearing about goals, priorities, and needs related to the future of the city, especially related to equity and housing affordability. Due to COVID, they have had to transition from a comprehensive in-person engagement strategy to a mostly virtual environment.

There are several parts of this effort:
  • They have had a series of introductory webinars (which are recorded and available online)
  • They are holding small-group discussions, via Zoom (people can participate online or via the phone)
  • They have a community survey (currently open through June 24)
  • There is a toll-free phone line (people can call to hear a two-minute project overview)
  • You can sign up to receive ongoing email alerts from us.  Sign up at https://cvilleplanstogether.com/contact-us/
We hope you will participate in both of these local efforts!

Sincerely,
VNA Board
